The dynamic Krijay Govender is a rare mix of brains, beauty, fortitude, creativity and comic genius. She’s a regular act on the SA comedy circuit, a gifted actress, speaker and a director of the popular TV3 soap, Isidingo.
Her comedic acting talent be seen on screen in the new comedy Font and Sons - SATV3 Thursdays 21h30.
Krijay’s television career started with her role as a glamorous fashion designer in Etv's Backstage but her career really took off with her role as publisher Jenna, Strini Pillai's former love interest, in SABC1’s Generation. When Ilse van Hemert, previously with Endemol and the creative producer of Isidingo at the time, spotted Krijay in the stage production Coolie Odyssey, she asked her to audition for Isidingo.
It’s not often that a role is written especially for an actress – but that’s what they did for Krijay in Isidingo! After three successful seasons, Krijay periodically returns to the show in her role as “Hemali”, a legal aid attorney and Gita Moodliar’s older sister.
In true Krijay style, however, she soon turned her hand to directing and most of her time on the Isidingo set nowadays is as a Director.
As a Speaker for Women’s Day or Motivation from Venus
Well known for her one woman plays, Krijay did her Masters on Indian culture, specifically focusing on women. Her motivational talk around these issues is insightful, dynamic and ... of course ... very funny!
Top Female Comic
Krijay Govender rates up there with the top of SA’s stand-up comedy talent and she’s arguably the top female comic in the country. She has had audiences on the South African comedy circuit in stitches since 2001, when she was invited onto the comedy circuit. Since then this former Miss India SA has become a regular on comedy stages around the country!
Her comedy career took off in Johannesburg after a routine on SABC2’s women’s talk show Motswako, The Mix. Nowadays she’s a hot favorite on the comedy circuit and regularly headlines as supporting act for top comics. She was selected to be the supporting act for acclaimed Canadian comedian Russell Peters' show Made in India and is one of the few female comics to make it into THE HEAVYWEIGHT COMEDY JAMS.
Popular Corporate MC
With her sophisticated and clever humour, her unusual take on the economy, women in business and life in South Africa generally, she’s also one of the hardest working female MCs in the country.
A lot of comics find it difficult to act as MC and perform comedy at the same gig. But Krijay is one of the few who can pull it off with style. |
